The 2014 Doha Jewellery and Watches Expo opened to the public February 25 at the Qatar National Convention Center. Boasting some of the world’s most luxurious accessories, the six-day fair features some 500 brands of watches and jewelry from 32 local and international companies.The expo, which runs until March 2, is being held this year for the first time at the QNCC, from its previous home at the Qatar Exhibition Center.Among the first-timers at the show is French fashion company Chanel , Christie's London and Qatar’s home-grown fashion brand Qela.

 

The 10th Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition will cover nearly 15,000 square metres and is expecting to welcome up to 50,000 visitors.  This reflects an increase of 15% more than last year’s participation, when the exhibition attracted more than 30,000 visitors.  

 

This year, in addition to the regular local and regional exhibitors, some of the world’s most famous international brands  will be in attendance like Christie’s from London and Matis Jewellery, who are aiming to establish a foothold in the jewellery industry in Qatar.  Christie's will be showing  jewelry from Cartier, vintage Boucheron, Graff, and Harry Winston.  Highlights include a unique Boucheron convertible necklace that is changeable into a Tiara, c. 1974,  important diamonds up to 70 carats, including colored diamonds, and a historical brooch with Imperial provenance.   There is also an impressive collection of David Webb jewels on exhibition for the occasion.

 

Speaking at a press conference in the Doha Exhibition Centre, Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) chairman HE Issa Al Mohannadi said the high profile of exhibitors continued to attract interested and enthusiastic customers from around the region and the world, which has helped made the show one of the most successful in the Gulf.   Indeed, this substantial exposition will showcase some of the world’s finest precious stones, finished jewellery and timepieces. 

 

The expo is free and open to the public from noon to 10pm through March 2, except on Saturday, March 1, when it is open from 4pm to 10pm.
